Omicron's Projects
Omicron Chapter ~ DKG NJ State Organization ~ The Delta Kappa Gamma International Society
MITTEN PROJECT
Our newest chapter project will be held at our December business meeting. Inspired by The Mitten, a children's book by Jan Brett, our chapter will collect winter outerwear (hats, gloves, mittens, scarves) along with new or gently used books for children, ages birth - grade 12, to be distributed to local organizations that serve children in our area.

BOOKS FOR BABIES
Since 1999, Omicron has supported our chapter's literacy initiative, Books for Babies, by creating gift bags for new mothers at Southern Ocean Medical Center's maternity ward. Each month, an Omicron member assembles and delivers numerous gift bags which include literacy information, an application for the Ocean County Public Library, a literacy poster, and a book for the new baby. Omicron graciously acknowledges the financial support provided by the Dave Wintrode Foundation in helping us make this project such a huge success.

S.E.E. PROJECT
In 2012, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International established the international project, Supporting Early-career Educators (SEE), as a means to help retain quality teachers, which is an issue worldwide. As a chapter, we have provided gift cards as well as mentored many early career educators in the schools located within the southern region of Ocean County, NJ.

In 2023, Omicron Chapter decided to dedicate the proceeds of our annual December "Giving Tree" donations to support Ocean's Providence House, a local charity that offers confidential 24-hour hotline services, counseling, education, specialized children’s programs, legal advocacy and a Safe House at no cost to victims and their children.

The mission of this international project involves providing access to quality basic education for children, focusing on girls, orphans, and other vulnerable youngsters.

LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES
Ever mindful of the needs of others, Omicron members readily donate non-perishable food items at most of our meetings, which are then brought to local food pantries within the communities of southern Ocean County by one of our members.
